I can't believe how quickly this break has gone. It was been a lot of fun. The hike before Christmas with our friends seems like a month ago instead of just over a week ago. The next day they flew to Washington to spend the holidays with family. We have missed them a ton. Then on Christmas Eve morning hubby took our other friends - H and J to the airport so they could fly to Kansas to spend the holidays with her mom and step-dad. It has been quite different around here without all of them. Not quiet but different.

Just before the holidays we went from a three cat home to a two cat home. We have missed our older cat but as she was the wire chewer since she has been gone it has allowed us to open up more of our home to the other two cats. The personalities in the two cats has also changed, they are more social and more vocal. I have been able to get more photographs of them. It has been really nice. We have moved several things around in our house as we no longer have to worry about cords being eaten.

We are getting ready to go to a friends home for the New Year's. We are looking forward to H and J coming home tomorrow afternoon. We are picking them up from the airport! Woo hoo!!!! I am so excited to see them. Then on Monday, late, Bear and A and E come home. I sense a major dinner party and debriefing sometime in the upcoming week.

I have had a good 2011 overall. I am looking forward to the adventures of 2012.

As many who have read my blog before knows I am not the biggest fan of Halloween. While I love fall, not so much Halloween. I don't like to get scared for any reasons and I still believe there are monsters under the bed. I liked Halloween as a kid, dressing up, trick or treating but since then not really.

Halloween hasn't been that positive of a day for me:
Six years ago on Halloween I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease.
Five years ago I had my appendix out.
Today I had nine crowns put in - which wasn't too bad. My mouth is sore but no real pain.

But this year I have sorta changed my attitude (slightly). I have a new friend that really loves Halloween and through their passion of the Halloween I no longer totally hate Halloween. In fact I sorta embraced it by knitting a pumpkin patch.

This was a lot of fun and it was fun to share the pumpkins with my friends. (okay, some haven't gotten theirs yet but they will.)

While today is a beautiful sunny day, unfortunately it is very chilly. But at least my front porch looks cute.

I love pumpkins on the front porch. It makes me want to make some pumpkin spice coffee. But before I do I thought I should show you how my day is going.

Yes, that is one of my temps. I can't get into the dentist until tomorrow night. Luckily I don't have any pain from it yet. Well I am off to make some coffee.

Monday was a great day. I had a productive day at the gym and in the office. We finished the day up with dinner with friends at our favorite place.

It was a great night to eat outside before the weather changed to more fall like temperatures. We enjoyed tacos and great conversation. We headed home for homemade hot cocoa that was like drinking a liquid brownie. So very yummy!!!

I finished the socks I was working on for the last few weeks.

Now I am working on a few little knitted pumpkins for Halloween and the Thanksgiving. More pictures to follow.

Not much knitting

I haven't knitted much lately. In fact, last night was spent mostly frogging projects. The socks called S'mores were the first to go. As socks are one of my favorite things to knit that if they stay on the the needles too long there is something wrong. So they were gone. Then the shawl that has already been frogged once before and so it ended in the frog pond. Then I had another pair of socks that I cast on yesterday that also got frogged as well as a baby sweater.

So what do I have on the needles. Well this shawl/baby afghan.

Then I casted on a different pair of socks last night.

I feel like I got a lot accomplished last night, even though it would seem that I went backward but I feel relieved to have those off the needles, as I never would have enjoyed knitting them.

It looks like the weather has decided that summer is over as the temp when from 86 degrees on Monday to 49 degrees as a high today.

oh yeah it snowed a little today too!

I already shared this on facebook, but as I was leaving home this morning to run errands before work, this BUG was on the front lock. I don't do bugs but I really don't like bugs in my place. Out in the wilderness that is fine, that is their turf. So it took me a moment to lock the door....yes I thought about not locking it but I couldn't leave unlocked. Yes, I did freak, I didn't scream but one of my dear friends (at least one of them) screamed for me when they saw it.

Great Friends

I have to admit that I have some awesome friends. But there are four people right now that my husband and I spend a lot of great time together. Two are my wonderful neighbors, A and E and then our friends that are like family H and J. We have gone camping together, visit together, watched football together. (The wonderful Utah vs BYU game last week, all of us cheering for Utah). Both A and I are gluten free and the rest support us and eat everything that way along with us.

So why I am mention them today especially? Well today was a big dental appointment for me. Those who follow my blog know that several years ago I had all my top teeth crowned all at once. Well today was the crown prep for 8 of my bottom teeth. I have two implants that are in process and the others are crowned. So in the least you could say eating was going to be mushy to say the least. Normally it is shakes and applesauce. Both can get very boring very quickly. Well my dear friends made sure it wasn't. While I still had my normal peanut butter chocolate milkshake after the 3+ hour appointment, I was gifted with some amazing food at dinner.

H and J brought and cooked, J's wonderful mexican dip full of flavor and goodness. (Mine had to be put through the blender but it still tasted awesome). I look forward to the leftovers tomorrow, but I also look forward to having it again some other time with tortilla chips. No picture of these dip as it sort looks like baby food and not at all pretty. But very, very good.

Then a little later A and E brought over rice pudding, oh my goodness. It was so very, very yummy and beautiful. They had found a recipe that was more like the rice pudding that the Indian restaurants serve. I felt so very, very spoiled.

I am truly blessed by my friends and I look forward to spoiling them back. I did get extra servings of the rice pudding, and I am sorry but I am not sharing. Well maybe a little with hubby as I can't eat the nuts yet.

Anniversary Dinner

Tuesday was our 14th wedding anniversary. I can't believe how fast the time has gone. We believe in making the most of our anniversary and celebrating it in little ways over the course of September through the first week of October. But on the night of our actual anniversary we did have a really nice meal at the local Indian restaurant that we were taken last week by our friends. We tried several new dishes this time.

Mom is always up for an adventure and so is Dad...so maybe one day soon!

Walking in the woods and other fun stuff

The sunday of Labor Day we took a walk with my MIL and her sister who came to visit us during our camping trip. We took a little walk to Lake Fehr. It was so beautiful.

Hubby got better pictures and I only took a few. But it was so beautiful and green.

On Saturday, September 10th Hubby and I took another hike up Millcreek canyon. This time we went to the left and walked on Old Red Pine Road Trail.

It was a beautiful walk and sorta steep in places. But what we notice was the slight yellows in the leaves and under brush. The deep greens were still there but there was a hint or two of fall if you knew where to look.

As you can see there was a little a bit of water around the trail. We had to cross the river four times. The first time I did really well. The second time my foot slipped and got wet so then I gave up and just walked through the river the rest of the time. It was a lot of fun but my shoes got really muddy.

On Sunday, after church we took a drive up the mountains. First we drove up Lamb Canyon which is on the way to Park City.

We stopped at the top of the canyon and took some pictures. It was a pretty canyon but a tight drive so we probably wont drive this one much. We head to Park City and on the other side of Parley's Summit you could see two trees changing to red/orange. I couldn't get a good picture of them.

We drove through Park City, got out at the top of Main Street and walked through a few store. Then headed back to Kimball junction for some gluten free food, And we found it at a pizzeria. I had cheesy garlic bread and gluten free meatballs. So yummy. I only got a photo of the bread.

I can't wait to go back and try the pizza. Or maybe a grilled cheese sandwich. So what did you do on your weekend?

Hiking the Provo River falls

On Saturday, while camping in the Uintas, Hubby and I hike the Provo River Falls. It was so much fun and so beautiful. We got a lot of awesome pictures. They seemed to go on forever. I want to see them in the late fall and again in the spring. We definitely will be going back.

Labor Day Weekend Camping

Well we had a successful camping trip this weekend. We went with our great friends H and J along with H's mom K. While friday night was a little rough for K with the cold and an air mattress that went flat, the rest of the weekend was great. We had a lot of great fun and a few extra visitors with Mr80grit's mom and aunt stopping by on Sunday afternoon followed by J's parents coming for dinner Sunday night. Mr80grit and I took a hike on Saturday then another with his mom and aunt on Sunday.
Monday we packed up last and headed out just as the rain fell.

I did a little shopping yesterday and went to the gluten free store we have in Salt Lake City. I think I am now ready for s'mores.

I did a little baking last night also. I made the easiest peanut butter cookies in the world and they are quite yummy.

They were made as Utah won their first football game of the season. That was a great Thursday!

Saturday's Adventure

As Saturday was incredibly beautiful but also quite hot. A drive with a hike in the mountains was call for. So hubby and I headed up to Millcreek Canyon where the temperatures at the top were a good 20 degrees cooler. It was very pretty but I wore the wrong shoes and paid for it with a blister on the bottom of my right foot. But it was a great trail and it amazed both of us that I had no issues with the climb itself. I can really see how all the time at the gym has paid off in a year. I look forward to hiking all the way to the top next time, while wearing the right shoes. Little hikes like this one makes me understand how blessed we are in Salt Lake to live 10 to 15 minutes from the mountain trails and camping.

Weekend Recap with Photos

Last weekend was a busy weekend with many activities and lots of fun. Saturday started with shopping with my BFF for a bridal shower gift. It was fun to have a little time together.

Later in the day it was off to Summer Jam at the Draper Amphitheater. The music was great and we met up with our friends but the sun was extremely hot so we only stay for a few hours.

Sunday was full of our normal morning activities. Praise band rehearsal and then church. There was time for a quick lunch, off to the bridal shower, home again and back to church for Sunday Night Gathering.
Afterwards Mr80grit and I headed up the canyon to fine cooler temps.

Then it was back home to finish up the Monkey Red socks! I liked how they turned out. I hope my friend will enjoy them for her birthday.

Migraine Monday

You know it is going to be on of those Mondays when:
you wake up to the visual migraine going on with the pain already hitting
you have registration for fall classes beginning this week
you spill coffee in your keyboard at work and it takes 4 hours before causing problems
you have to call your husband for IT support and he gets to laugh at you about spilling the coffee
you have book club after work and you realize that you have only read 10 pages - and the book didn't interest you at all and you have no intent to ever finish the book

Based on the above happening it sounds like the perfect day to head directly home, eat dinner, knit a little and then head to bed early. Let's try again tomorrow.

Yesterday - memories

Yesterday is more than just a song that the Beatles wrote. No correlation to what I want to blog about today. Yesterday August 3rd was the 12th anniversary of my open heart surgery to repair my heart valve. I was born with a bad valve and it took until 1999 before it wore out.

I was surprised this year with the anniversary, usually I have it marked on my calendar and I spend the morning in reflection about how good God is. But yesterday it never crossed my mind until my mom called and reminded me. I made a comment on facebook about it but that was about it until night time. Hubby and I were sitting outside in the backyard on the deck reflecting about the day and we started talking about it. This year it was quite different on the reflection with Dad's open heart surgery in March I got to see it from the other angle. While my dad will disagree with me, I think it was much easier to be the patient. Of course my experience was a walk in the park compared with Dad's.

But what got to me most this year was why wasn't I reflecting on the surgery like I had in the past. I believe it is because for the first time in 12 years I am so much healthier than I have ever been so I have been busy living life. Since last year I have lost about 50 pounds, I exercise daily, I eat healthier and maintain my gluten free lifestyle, I do more each day than I have in the past (although recovery from the the dental work has slowed me down). I have a set of amazing friends that we do things with almost every weekend including going back to camping after 10+ year absence. Sometimes we even sneak in some fun during the week. God has blessed me so much this year and each day is a blessing.

I still have a lot of goals and dreams to achieve in the coming year. I am looking forward to completing them as much as I complete a knitting project. Some of the goals are completing the dental work this fall -which won't be fun but I will be happy about it when it is done. I would like to do a 5k, I don't run but I would like to walk one. I want to take a major trip with the hubby, somewhere we haven't been before together would be awesome. I want to continue to lose weight as I like the smaller clothes and have started to enjoy clothes shopping.

More recovery knitting from the weekend

Well I knitted through the weekend again on the road to recovery. I am so excited to have both wallabys knitted and after a bath tonight, they will be ready for the hand off. I am a little nervous that the last one might be a little small for my nephew but if it is I will just knit him a different one.

The color really doesn't show up very well. But it is a forest green. The whole reason I named it Forest Wallaby. I feel that wallabys are like potato chips, you can't just knit one.

On Monday, after I kitchener the hood of this one. I immediately cast on a Baby Surprise Jacket. Small stuff is so much fun to knit. I decided as I am a little burnt out on socks that I would knit out of my stash and make a stash of baby items for friends and family. Then I will be ready whenever. I do have a special project for a friends grandbaby that I need to go get yarn for that project. Maybe on my day off Friday.

While I can't believe summer is going so fast. I am so ready to go back to my normal work schedule. I only have a few more weeks of the summer schedule. Back to my normal schedule on August 22nd. Then a month later, I have a major dental appointment on September 22nd. I will be so glad to have the dental stuff done.

Dental work = Wallaby

It seems each time I have really bad dental work I end up knitting wallabys. On Tuesday, I went for a root canal retreat that turned into a tooth extraction instead. I am a pro at root canals as I have had 10 of them. The one on Tuesday was on my very first root canal I had done in my early 20's. There was some funky stuff done to the tooth so the dentist and I made the decision to pull it instead.

I am happy with the decision as I know in the long run it will be better all around. This week was my summer break at work so other than plans to go camping this weekend, there was nothing on the calendar. We did cancel going camping as I was not feeling good on Friday. But I did get one wallaby done and have casted on the other.

I am off to knit, watch something on Netflix, and recoup. More later.

Vacation Recap

Wow, what a great time we had last week in Denver, Colorado. That is the longest road trip I have taken in years. I forgot how much knitting time that it gives you. I am ready to go again. I really enjoyed visiting with family and old friends. I was able to reconnect with a BFF from college.

First I have a picture of the pair of socks that I finish a few days before my trip, they are the Traveling Socks -Easter edition.

Then I was able to complete my pink BFF socks on the trip home and had to pull out my shawl (no pictures yet) with about 3 hours of drive time left.

While in Denver, I hit 3 yarn stores. They were very unique and different. The first one I only got needles as I do the magic loop method and the needles I was knitting the pink socks on were 32" inches instead of the normal 40" inches. I was so glad to change those out.

On Thursday we went to Parker, Colorado for the 2nd knitting shop. It was great, the owner was very friendly and helpful. I look forward to going back there next time. I picked up beautiful sock yarn and the owner gave my hubby the sticker as he is a Doctor Who fan.

On Friday, we went to the local mall and did the tourist type shopping with a hoodie for me and then we hit the container store. That was a lot of fun.

On Saturday, we headed out to Lakewood, Colorado for the 3rd yarn store and felt right at home. The Recycled Sheep was so warm and friendly. I got two skeins of sock yarn and a great new coffee mug.

We headed back to Utah on Sunday and the miles flew by on my knitting needles. We are already trying to figure out when we can go back.

Father's Day

Well we celebrate father's day a little differently this year. On Sunday June 12th we met with the hubby's side of the family to celebrate Father's Day. Then on Saturday of this week, we had a cookout at my parents. So on the actually day, P and I went to the movies after church then we went to look at all the overflowing rivers in the area.

It was a great day to take a walk in the park.

Knitting Update

Well I finally got around to taking pictures of my Hermione's Everyday Socks that I finished back in May. I have dragged them around forever in my bag and today I finally remembered to grab a picture of them.

Now they can take their bath and be put away for the fall/winter time. I like the overall pattern but not the heel. Next time I would just do my normal heel, instead of the one in the pattern.

Camping over Memorial Day

After many years of staying away from camping this weekend, P and I decided to head back into the woods. We have some really good friends who were willing to go with us and actually they did all the planning as we more or less just joined them on a trip they already planned. I have been excited about this trip for weeks and the funny part was I really didn't know where we were going. When anyone ask me or hubby where we are going we would say, I don't know we are going with J and H. We knew that it was about an hour and a half from home as J needed to return on Sunday to church. We did a little planning, unpacked our camping gear that we haven't used in years. We quickly realize we were missing quite a bit that we used to have but nothing that couldn't be eventually replaced. We did buy a new air mattress and we were ready to go. So Friday after worked we headed out. Of course, we didn't get there until after dark and luckily J and H had set up our tent for us. After a snack of smores, and much laughter and talking we headed to bed.

The next morning we were able to look around the beautiful campsite. I found this lovely sign and of course had to take a picture of it.

Eventually the rest of the campers woke up and breakfast was soon on the stove. As J and myself weren't really cooking we took pictures. Him on the nice camera and he and his wife have and I using my camera phone.

Later after breakfast and during our first card games, the tripod came out and photos were taken.

This is my dear friend H and she will hopefully forgive me for posting this picture here and on facebook but I think they grabbed some of me that look similar. By the way both H and I are addicted to the Mexican cokes and seemed to really enjoy them on our trip.

Now let's talk about P and I's tent. Does it look small? It is very small, we barely fit and unfortunately our new air mattress didn't fit and after several hours of trying to sleep on a little padding my poor back had enough Friday night so I finished the night in the passenger seat of the van.

So that meant while J and H when out exploring the different beautiful waterfalls etc. P and I headed into town to correct the error. Based on earlier advice from our wonderful cousin, we didn't exchange the air mattress, we got a bigger tent. After we return from town. J and P took down our old tent and packed it away.

Then they set up our much bigger beautiful tent. We can actually stand up in the tent and not step on the other person when heading out to the outhouse in the middle of the night. The new air mattress fit perfectly and was enjoyed the rest of the weekend, Including a wonderful Sunday afternoon nap!

As you can see from pictures above and that the sign talks about Ponderosa pine trees, the campsite is full of beautiful pine trees that were planted almost 100 years ago. That meant that everything was covered with pine needles and pine cones. I took a few pictures of them but this is the best one.

Saturday night after the tent was up and dinner was cooked by H and myself. (Yes, I can cook but as my job was more cornbread in the dutch oven and dump cake in the dutch oven - it was really baking and yes it was all gluten free!) We played more cards by falling light and then by lantern. It was a lot of fun.

The next morning after J left to head back to city for church, H and I took a walk to keep warm. It was mostly a sunny day but cold and windy. We kept the fire going all day. We found this wild looking stump on our walk.

After lunch, the three of us went on a drive while waiting for J to make it back. We took the scenic byway up the canyon. We found this great outlook to take a few pictures. It was so cold and windy.

We drove up a little further and found snow. It is about 8000 feet and all the snow was covering in red dirt. It was very pretty but cold. So we headed back to the campground for a nap.

We went out to take pictures after our nap and J's return. J and H had found a waterfall and bridge to take couple photos at the previous day so off we went. It was so beautiful and green. Still quite cold but nice. It started to rain as we left this area.

P and I head back to camp first and started to set up a protected area but J and H were quickly there and between all four of us we got a little rain break built. Then we set up for dinner. J and P did most of the cooking. It turned out really well. J cooked corn in the fire and we had bratwurst with potatoes, carrots and onions on the stove instead of tin foil dinner style. It was perfect meal for the evening. J finished it up by toasting marshmallows for himself, me and P as H isn't a fan of marshmallows. It was so awesome to have a gluten free smore. Need to go camping to make more of those. They just taste better out in the woods.

This morning we awoke to a winter wonderland. I have to say that I wasn't expected 4 inches of snow in May but it is Utah and it is ALWAYS a possibility.

We did have a little incident of the tent bowing in with snow at one part of the morning but the tent did great and stayed together and we stayed nice and dry inside. It was hard to leave the warmth of the tent but it was too pretty to stay inside.

All the pine needles and pine cones were covered in snow.

Here is just a little of the snow that we knocked of the roof of the tent. P had to knock the roof clear about 5 times before we packed up.

The trees were full of snow and the snow was quite dense and so when the snow came off the trees it was like being hit by a snowball. Also pine cones sometimes came with the snow!

There was about 4 inches of snow on the railing and by joint agreement we decided that our camping trip was at an end and time to pack up and head home.

Bye campground. See you when it warms up a little more! I want to come here again. It was a really nice site. It was so nice to get away from everything. There was no cellphone coverage and the campground only had 16 sites so not too many people. It was a great time to recharge.

So this was our first journey back into camping and we are already planning more trips. We will also be planning to join P's family (extended) as scheduling permits. But now it is time to knit as I haven't knit in over a week due to work and the camping trip. This is did get me ready for the summer and we have a lot of great plans and trips planned. Mother's Day Part 1

There are two part's to Mother's day this year. As we are having two separate celebrations. One was yesterday with my mom and the other will be Saturday with P's mom here at the house.

It was a quiet day with Mom. Her and dad had breakfast out with my older brother J while P and I ran a/v at church for both services. We snuck lunch and a nap in before taking Mom's favorite gelato over to her house.

My other brother who is out of town sent beautiful flower once again!

And I gave Mom a pair of hand knitted socks.

They are a lighter weight pair and if the rain and cold weather stay around she might be able to wear them this week.

Knitting Update

I have been putting off blogging for a while and I really don't know why. I don't know if I have anything interesting to say. But I thought I should at least show some completed knitting projects and some projects in process. First the completed ones. Here is the pink afghan that I complete for a baby girl born in March but I haven't got with the mom and baby yet to give this too yet.

I have a friend who is knitting a Koolhas and needed some help. I fell in love with the pattern and had to knit one for myself. I want to make another one as I was a little big, but I really love how it looks on.

The next are my projects in process/ I have been trying to use up my odds and ends of leftover sock yarn without doing the afghan that everyone seems to be doing with their leftovers. But the bug bit me as I was going onto Spring break and now I can't stop. I can see why everyone is knitting this or has knit it. It is fun and great way to use up those odds and ends.

The last project I am going to show you is my traveling sock. I call it the traveling sock as I always have a simple sock in my bag when I go out of the house. This is the current one, the colorway reminds me of Easter colors and the pattern is Carole's Picot Edge Sock. It is nice and relaxing. That is the update for now.

I am back to work this week after a wonderful week of spring break off. It is suppose to snow but I am really ready for warmer weather.

Snowy Sunday

Well after two days of spring, where the temperatures were in the 70's. We woke up to 4 inches of snow and more coming. As this is typical of April in Utah, there was no panic, but I did feel the need for coffee several times today. For once I took no pictures of the snow as I am so ready for spring.

We spent the day at my parents home, just relaxing and enjoying each others company. Which considering how much time we have spent together in the last four weeks, it was amazing we had any thing to talk about at all. We ate food together both lunch and dinner with a few snacks thrown in. Plus I did some knitting. This is how the sock project started this afternoon.

As you can see I was middle way through the foot. While watching whatever Dad and hubby chose to watch I was able to finish sock #1 and cast on sock #2. I am really enjoying the pattern and the yarn.

The heel is not one I usually do and when I knit this pattern again, I will do my normal heel as it seems to fit me better. However, this sock does fit really nice and can't wait until next fall to wear them. Mom has ask for a pair herself as she likes the texture and the fit.

Well it is time to finish the weekend with a little relaxing that doesn't including knitting.

Finished Projects

As you can see I did finish a few projects in the last few weeks. First was the baby wallaby for a friend's granddaughter. It turned out very cute and I have a picture on my cellphone of the cutie wearing it. So cute.

My dad asked for another pair of socks, so I cast them on March 2nd and finally finished them up on Sunday. I really love the color and they are sport weight so they are perfect for lounging around at home. My dad is always cold so I know that these will become a favorite for sure.

I am have few projects to that I want to cast on. I have a friend that is doing a hat and she has got me wanting to do it also. So Saturday I picked up yarn for it, along with some beautiful pink sock yarn for socks. I have an itching to do some lace work as spring is trying to spring but winter keeps attacking. But lace work always makes it feel like spring to me so I am off to search ravelry for a pattern I will enjoy! Later All!
